Make sure you don’t drop cigarette ash into the tank. Wouldn’t want to gum up the new pump or anything.

why do car manufacturers not put access panels under the back seat? It takes virutally zero effort to add them and wildly reduces the difficulty of replacing a fuel pump. All 3 BMWs I’ve owned had them, and as far as I know, aside from the California specific cars, all BMWs have an access panel. The CA cars have fully sealed fuel systems to meet some law regarding gasoline evaporation thing and if that pump goes, you have to replace the tank as the pump is integrated and non-replaceable.
